YOUNG ADULTS HELPING OUT OTHERS

 The Y.A.H.O.O. mission:

 To encourage and foster youth involvement in the community.

 To educate youth in the concept of volunteerism, commitment, community 
service and  social skills.

   What we expect from Y.A.H.O.O. youth.

  • A commitment! 

    • Saturday mornings 8:45-11 AM 

    • Spring dates (see Registration)

    • Fall dates (see Registration)

     

  • To submit registration forms and medical history

    • Medications must be available and provided by the youth

    • e.g. epi-pens, inhalers and any other indications

  • To be punctual

    • All volunteers must be prompt. Period!

    • Arrive by 8:45 AM

    • The drop off and pick up site is:

      • Y.A.H.O.O. tool shed, 1 Park Street, Sterling

  • To sign in and sign out

  • To wear appropriate clothing

    • No sandals

    • Y.A.H.O.O. T-shirts required

  • To bring your own tools

    • Rakes

    • Brooms

    • Shovels

    • Gloves

    •  Water

  • To be courteous and polite . . . a must behavior

  • To refrain from tobacco products . . . they are prohibited


   What to expect from the
Y.A.H.O.O. staff

    Y.A.H.O.O. STAFF

  • Will not:

    • Pick-up or deliver a volunteer from or to their home

    • Allow the kids to enter any structure on any work site

  • Will provide:

    • Phone numbers for emergencies and inclement weather

    •  Transportation to and from a work site from the Y.A.H.O.O. tool shed

    • Y.A.H.O.O. T-shirts

    • Completion certificates:

      • 6-11       hours:    participation

      • 12-15     hours:    Bronze

      • 16-19     hours:    Silver

      • 20+         hours:    Gold

  • Scheduling of tasks and at no time will these jobs require:

    • Dangerous machinery or tools

    • Ladders

    • Anything with a motor

  • Will insure there are two supervisors, 21 years old or older, assigned to each work crew who will:

    • Transport (as needed) and supervise all crews

    •  Insure first aid kits are available at every site

 

   What do we expect from Y.A.H.O.O. parents?

  • Please make sure your child is prompt

    • PICK-UP and DROP-OFF point is the Y.A.H.O.O. tool shed

    • Prompt drop-off    08:45 AM

    •  Prompt pick-up    11:00 AM

  • Supply registration and medical history forms

    • Spring deadline:  April 9, 2004

    • Fall deadline: TBD

  • Consider volunteering and participation (This is essential to the program)

  • Supply and encourage your child in this endeavor


   Who is eligible for services through
Y.A.H.O.O.?

  • Senior citizens in our community

  • People whose circumstances require them to need a helping hand

Things you need to know:

  •   If you sign up for a week and can not come, e-mail Mrs. Dietel at Jeanne.dietel@webstervet.com  as soon as you know.

  • Sweatshirts will be issued after 10 hours of volunteer work

  • cancellations will be posted on the website by 8:15 AM

  • if you do not have access, you will receive a call from a member of the committee.
