2024 Spring Season begins on April 6

Please register to volunteer for the spring season. Y.A.H.O.O.’s target schedule is: 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, and 4/27. We may also work on 5/4, if necessary, if for example a weekend is cancelled due to wet conditions. Volunteers will meet at the orange Y.A.H.O.O. shed located next to the Butterick Building no later than 8:45 a.m. and everyone will return to the shed by about 11:15 a.m. Youth volunteers please sign-up here. DCM steps forward to refurbish the Y.A.H.O.O. shed

Tom Dube of Dube Construction Management (DCM) generously donated labor and materials to complete much needed repairs to the Y.A.H.O.O. shed. DCM rebuilt nearly the entire north wall (studs and siding), some of the interior floor, replaced most of the base boards along with portions of the siding close to the ground, several trim boards, and inserted flashing at seam lines. Video Presentation

Each year Sterling’s Chocksett Middle School graciously hosts a presentation by the Y.A.H.O.O. Youth Board. All seventh and eighth graders gather in the school auditorium to hear board members describe the program and answer questions. The teachers and the school’s administration are wonderful ambassadors and supporters of the program. We can’t thank them enough for their assistance. All smiles on the second week of the season!

I spy with my little eye … SMILES! At Y.A.H.O.O. we connect the youth of our community with residents who have made Sterling their home for decades, or even generations. Our volunteers work in teams to make yards clean and flower beds tidy. We also make sure to engage with homeowners, strike up conversations, and inquire how they are doing. Y.A.H.O.O. recognizes four program ambassadors

This morning Y.A.H.O.O. gave special recognition to four high school seniors for their dedicated and consistent service over the last six years. Julie, Xavier, Meghan, and Kyle (not pictured, but who also worked today) lead by example and therefore help establish expectations for new volunteers. Their maturity and selfless attitudes are an enriching ingredient for the program’s mission. We thank them for their work and wish them well as they look forward to new opportunities.
